L2TP is No Longer Supported Over Serious Security Concerns!

Aug. 8, 2021, 2:38 a.m.

Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) is slow, can easily be blocked by firewalls, and is reported to pose a security threat according to Edward Snowden and John Gilmore, one of the EFF founders.

In addition to security concerns, L2TP uses a method called double encapsulation which makes it way slower than our latest SmokeV2 protocol. Not to mention, L2TP uses UDP port 500 which can be easily detected and blocked by firewalls.

There are much faster, more secure and many reliable alternatives currently available to all of our users. You can try our new SmokeV2 which is currently available on Android, iOS beta or you can use the regular Smoke protocol which proved reliable even behind the GFW and it’s currently available on all supported operating systems.
